A First Holy Communion is the Christian tradition of receiving the Eucharist for the first time. It is a right of passage; a milestone of the Christian faith following Baptism and prior to Confirmation. Traditionally for this parish, First Holy Communions are celebrated from late April to early May depending on where Easter falls on the calendar. This year, Covid precautions delayed these celebrations about 5 months, to the Fall.
Like any milestone, families like to incorporate tradition; a little something to make the day extra special.
This Communicant’s dress was special to both her and her mother. Her mother had a piece of her wedding dress sewed into her daughter’s dress as well as a piece of the communicant’s flower-girl dress from her uncle’s wedding. I love hearing the creative ways to make these milestones meaningful; taking note of the details for future generations & creating family traditions.
